Frequently Asked Questions

What is a photographic safari and how is it different from a regular safari?

A photographic safari is designed with photographers in mind. The pace is slower, sightings are enjoyed longer, and vehicle positioning is planned to maximize light and angles. Unlike a standard safari, the focus is on creating opportunities for world class wildlife images.

Do I need professional camera equipment to join a photographic safari?

No - a photographic safari is for everyone. Whether you bring a DSLR, mirrorless camera, or even just a smartphone, you'll still learn and capture incredible images. I offer guidance for all skill levels and equipment rental options.

Will you help me improve my photography skills during the safari?

Yes, I provide hands on tuition throughout the safari, including camera settings, composition, anticipating animal behavior, and editing tips. The aim is to leave not only with beautiful photographs but also new skills.

What is included in a photographic safari package?

Packages usually include accommodation, meals and selected drinks, game drives, guiding, park fees, and photography mentoring. Exclusions such as flights or extras (exclusive drinks, special activities) will be detailed upfront so there are no surprises.

What makes a couple or honeymoon safari special?

Couple safaris are curated for romance and privacy - private game drives, luxury accommodations, candlelit dinners, and unforgettable wildlife encounters. It's about combining the thrill of the wild with intimate, shared experiences.

What activities are available for children on safari?

Many lodges offer child-friendly bush walks, junior ranger programs, animal tracking lessons, and craft sessions. The aim is to make the safari fun and educational, so kids feel part of the adventure.

Can proposals be arranged on safari?

Absolutely. From sunset setups in the bush to private riverbank dinners, I can work with lodges to plan a personalized, magical proposal. I discreetly capture the moment so you can relive it forever.

Are safaris suitable for families with children?

Yes - I work with lodges and guides that are experienced in hosting families. Activities and schedules are adapted to keep children engaged, safe, and inspired by the natural world.

How private are the safaris?

Most safaris I plan are private, tailored exclusively to you - whether you're a couple, family, or group of photographers. Small - group photographic safaris are also available for those who enjoy shared experiences.

When is the best time of year for a safari?

Both seasons offer unique opportunities: dry winter months (May - September) for easier wildlife viewing and dramatic sightings, or lush summer (October - March) for vibrant landscapes, migratory birds, and newborn animals.

Do you also offer cultural or conservation experiences?

Yes - Safaris can be extended to include cultural visits, behind-the-scenes conservation work, or time with wildlife researchers. These experiences provide a richer understanding of natural ecosystems beyond the standard game drive.

How many days should we plan for a safari?

As a minimum 4 - 5 nights is recommended to get the full experience, but 5 - 7 nights allows for deeper immersion and more opportunities to see wildlife, areas and landscapes.

Are dietary requirements and special needs catered for?

Yes - lodges are highly flexible with dietary preferences (vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, etc) and can accommodate mobility or medical needs with advanced notice.

How do we book a safari with Dylan Pons Photography?

Booking is simple: reach out via the website contact form, email or WhatsApp with your dates, interests, group size, and anything else. Once I receive this information I will schedule a call to iron out the details and ensure all information is gathered so that I can design your specifically tailored safari experience.

What are the payment terms?
